Zevi Takes the Spotlight is a mystery story about a boy with psychic powers and acting ambitions. Zevi wants to be an actor and is really excited to get a small part in a movie that is filming in his town. Once the movie production begins, Zevi senses a threat to the star of the movie. Once dangerous things start happening to the star, Zevi, who does not think the occurrences were accidental, decides that it is up to him to solve the mystery to save the lead actor. As someone who is very into theater, I enjoyed the elements of the book that talked about making a movie. I also like the mystery elements and had fun trying to to solve the mystery along with Zevi. The book did mention some Jewish ideas and elements and have Jewish characters, but I wish there was more in order to call it a Jewish book. I think if you like mysteries and the idea of making movies, you will like this book!
Zevi is not a normal kid. Zevi always had a special ability to know when bad stuff was happening. For example, when a kid went missing, Zevi knew exactly where she was. He told the police and she was right there exactly where he told them she would be! That also happens to be where our story starts... Zevi had been in a lot of movies as a background character, so when Robert Lemon, Zevi's favorite actor, came to town, Zevi knew he had to be in his new movie with his best friend, Nir. But Zevi could tell something wasn't right about this movie. He kept getting visions that something would happen to Robert. After a couple of weeks of filming, Robert almost got hit with a set prop! Thankfully, Zevi was there to push him out of the way. After that, Zevi was sure something was suspicious about the movie. When the crew started filming in Zevi's house, Zevi and Nir began investigating. Strange things kept happening to Robert, but Zevi was always there to help. Finally, Zevi figured out that it was... Wait, I don't want to tell you. You'll have to read the book yourself to figure out who was trying to kill Robert Lemon!
