There’s nothing Benji Zeb loves more than running free in his wolf form. No bar mitzvah prep, no anxiety, and definitely no worries about his secret crush on Caleb, the boy who used to be his best friend.

Werewolves: they’re projected as heartless butchers, but in Benji Zeb is a Ravenous Werewolf, they couldn't be farther from that definition. Benjamin “Benji” Zeb is your average Jewish middle-schooler. He keeps kosher, has a lot of homework, and is stressed about his upcoming bar mitzvah. But Benji has a secret. He, and almost everybody on his kibbutz/wolf preserve in Washington State, is a werewolf! They can change into wolves whenever they want, not just at the full moon, and their cover as a wolf preserve, though they do protect wolves, lets them roam free. They take in any werewolves that come to them. But, the kibbutz has a problem. A local farmer is angry, because the kibbutz won a fair that let them get the land that it is on and he lost, so he is trying to make it look like the wolves are escaping by making holes in the fence, so that kibbutz will have to leave. But that isn’t Benji’s only problem. He used to be friends (or more) with the farmer’s son, but over the summer he became a bully. But when a new werewolf shows up at the kibbutz Benji’s world is toppled upside-down. Will the kibbutz solve its problems? Will we find out who the new werewolf is? Find the answers to your questions in Benji Zeb is a Ravenous Werewolf!

I loved this book!

Review by NationalDesignTeam

I thought all of the character development was executed very well, it didn't feel rushed or cringey at all. Speaking of pace, the pacing in this book was the best I've seen in a while. The descriptions in the book were also excellent, and the was a good balance of dialogue and description. Another small thing I liked was the mini cliffhangers at the end of each chapter (I love when authors do that!) The emotions of the characters were so well written that I could literally feel them. The climax was soooo well executed, and the LGBTQIA+ representation was awesome too. - Emelia, PJ Our Way Advisory Committee Member
