This book made me think more about the importance of family.

This book was okay. It was a little weird how this regular boy sees the life of his ancestors. But, it was really short and not THAT interesting. still though, it a pretty good book.

Very short, very good

This book takes between 5 and 25 minutes to read, but I would select and read it anyway! This book starts out with Jesse not knowing or caring about his heritage, but ends with him inspired by it. This book is full of magic, and even though he does nothing out of his attic, he is a hero. Historical fiction with adventure and fantasy.

This book is pretty cool! I am a super fast reader and get bored of books really easily (and then ask for like a million more!) otherwise my review would be different. If you are a strong, slow reader you should definitely read this book!

From David, NY, Design Team
“Jesse’s Star” was a great book. The author, Ellen Schwartz, told the story about how a klutz named Yossi saved his village from Russian soldiers who tried to steal the villagers’ crops. Yossi caused a distraction by dressing up as Baba Yaga and scaring Russian soldiers away. This allowed Yossi and the villagers to escape on a ship to Canada. The story of Yossi was discovered by his descendant Jesse, who found a Jewish star and put it on his neck. The star started burning on his chest and took Jesse back in time.
I would recommend this book to people who like magic and historical fiction.

A beautiful story

From Akiva, age 10
This was a beautiful story about how a kid who didn't care much about his ancestors, learned to care a lot more. I liked it because magic took place in it. It was really easy to understand and took me an hour and 1/2 to finish it. It has some freaky scenes like they talk about a dead person, a devil and a witch, but I like that the main character was a clumsy boy who pushed himself and helped his community.
