Since Matja put the evil eye on Mendel, he can’t do anything right! No one wants him around, not even the goats. Luckily, the Cossacks don’t know about the curse.  Yet.

I always remember what Matja said:"The most effective curses are the ones we put on ourselves!"

Review by ELSK

Have you ever felt like you can't ever do anything right? Well, this book is about a boy who feels that way ALL THE TIME. Good thing for him, the only things he really has to worry about are 1.) School, and 2.) Chores. But when the Cossacks arrive, he's pretty sure that he's just going to get in the way if the town tries to make a plan! Suddenly, a crazy, surprising, extremely unexpected discovery sets him onto the right track, and he comes up with a plan to defeat them. Maybe a boy who seems like he's nothing but problems can be this villages solution after all!

Super amazing!

Review by TessaD

Mendel the Mess-Up is such a good book! It's about this kid running away from bad guys in his own city and he messes up all the time because of a curse. So nobody can think he can save his village. I have now read it four times, front cover to back!
