The PJ Our Way Advisory Committee Reviews The Magical Imperfect

We gave members of the PJ Our Way Advisory Committee a sneak peak at one of this month’s choices – The Magical Imperfect by Chris Baron.

Here’s what they had to say about it:

1. What was your favorite thing about this book?

Pie chart of the PJOW advisory committee's favorite things about The Magical Imperfect

2. Does this book remind you of any other books?

  • Odder by Katherine Applegate because it is also in a poetry format
  • Wings to Soar by Tina Athaide
  • The Girl with the Secret Name by Yael Zoldan
  • Starfish by Lisa Fipps because they are both books about Jewish kids overcoming obstacles, people being more than how they look, and they are both written as poetry
  • Right Back at You by Carolyn Mackler

3. Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Magical Imperfect?

  • I like how the book is written like poetry but there is no rhyming. The dialogue is very interesting. It is in italics and not in quotation marks. - Miles
  • It was a nice story about friendship. I liked the story and seeing what would happen next. At first I didn’t want to read it because it looked like a poem. But I read it and it was much better than I expected! I liked how these two people had the same troubles and could help each other. - Eliana
  • I liked how Malia and Etan had a good relationship. - Shayna
  • This book is written in verse so if you like poems you should definitely try this book! - Romi
  • This book was really cool because each page had a name and them poem-like writing. The plot was very interesting too. The characters were full of depth and fun to learn about. – Gianna
