This was an okay book, could have been better

This book was just OK

I learned more about Jewish history from this book.

I liked this book. It could have been a little more exciting and action-packed. I saw that Kirkus Reviews said that it was, "A fine offering for readers not quite ready for Number the Stars." I have read Number the Stars many times, which might be why I felt that it was a little too young for my reading level. All that to say, I feel it would be a great book for lower-level readers.

I loved this book!

I learned more about Jewish history from this book.

I liked almost everything about this book except that it didn't go on forever. It would be nice if some books went on forever, but I have never found a book that went on forever. :)

Very exciting and good history book!!

A Time To Be Brave looked interesting but when I chose it I didn't realize that it is written for younger kids. It was really short and I did not enjoy it.

This book shows that even if you are SMALL, you can do BIG things.

the pictures are funny looking!!

good BUT...
Submitted 2/25/2017 by animal lover

This book made me think more about friendship.

Good BUT, you really need to pay attention to the dates. A lot of times it goes backwards, and sometimes the other way around. also, it is actually very short. It says hat there are 112 pages, the words are just really big, and I'm into longer book.

Amazing book!

Thumbs up!

I learned more about Jewish history from this book.

This was a good book. It explained what the Holocaust was like in Denmark, and had great details about it. All of the PJ Our Way books are hard to put down, and this was no exception!

Very interesting

This book was just OK

I learned more about Jewish history from this book.

This book isn't the best book about the holocaust because it doesn't have any details. Good for a 7 year old but not a 10 year old.

Great book!

Thumbs up!

I learned more about Jewish history from this book.

I can't believe how scary it would be to walk with Nazi solder knowing if you make the wrong move you could be dead.

Was good, but didn't exactly "hit the spot"

This book was just OK

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

It was a fine book, but, I would probably want to tell the ending if it were my book.Though, the part about Rachel and Honey Cake was pretty"sweet."

I liked this book.

I learned more about Jewish history from this book.

I think it was really hard living for Jews during the Nazi invasion

I loved the way the book was written!
Submitted 9/1/2016 by Design Team

Thumbs up!

Since the book was written for children, it doesn't have too much drama.
There is a boy who is brave even with the Nazi invasion. He does a very important job helping the resistance. Then things get complicated.

Joan Betty Stuchner

Author of A Time to Be Brave

“Don't shoo away the ideas that pop into your head. Write them down. You only need three things -- an imagination, a pen and a notebook.”

Joan Betty Stuchner was born in Leeds, England in 1947. She died in Vancouver, Canada in 2014. Her friend, Cynthia Heinrichs, also a writer, describes Joan as having “a knack for making everyone she met feel like they were her friend because they were, or soon would be.”

Joan loved ballet, art galleries, museums, travelling and strong sweet tea. But she especially loved reading and writing! She taught writing classes for children and urged her students to pay attention to everyday events and conversations. You never know where your next idea for a story may come from!
