I loved this book!

I like how the main character is orthodox. The story can relate to everybody even if they are not the only child because sometimes you are so busy and want people to go away from you but then you are alone and bored. I think that it is a good read and you should read it too. it taught me a song!!!!!!!!!!!! I also like that she likes and believes in numbers. all in all, it is a good book.

This book was okay. It kinda made me fall asleep at times. I was bored and I didn't understand some of what was going on. But I still think it was a good story with the performance at the end. It took a long time to get there.

Amazing and Awe-Inspiring
Submitted 12/6/2018 by ActressPlusReaderEqualsME

This book was so incredible! It taught me more about Judiasm, and also about not taking what you have for granted. It made feel so grateful for my three siblings. I'm never alone! And if you are an only child, this book can help you realize the positive sides of that, and also give you ideas about what you can do in order to never feel lonely (Hint hint, Hachnasat Orchim!) This book is such a great read!

Submitted 4/10/2018 by Carebear

This was a great book. It never lost my interest and I found it very fun to read. I would recommend this book if you like realistic fiction, because not only was it realistic fiction but it was one of the best realistic fiction books that I've read in a while. It wasn't the type of book that had me on the edge of my seat ( it wasn't very action-packed) but I still enjoyed it very much. I would give this book a four star rating because yes, it was good, but the plot seemed like a similar plot to some other books I've read. So, overall, this was a great book that I would recommend to some readers who are able to stick with the book, but if you like action packed books then this might not be for you.

Amazing book!
Submitted 3/3/2018 by books&me

I loved this book!

It thought me a lot of things and i can also relate to this story. Kind of.
First of all, I've never really thought about the way an only child's point of view about not having any siblings because sometimes, i wish my brother wasn't there. Also, he could be really annoying, like the times he couldn't stop talking about school and fire drills. Crazy, right?
Also, i can kind of relate to the story. We have this lady who cleans our house once in two weeks and whenever she comes, she babbles on and on and on and on and on about boring things, such as her daughter's driver's licence and how she saw sooooooooooooo many deer in Pennsylvania. I think she made me late to school once. Unfortunately, her name isn't Gabrielle, so i can't nickname her Gabbers.

I liked this book.

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

Being an only child, I related to Talia Schumacher a lot. Also, she is gifted and has synesthesia. All of this in mind, the book doesn't have a very satisfying ending. I dug around on the internet, but there's no sequel, at least published.
All in all, One Is Not A Lonely Number is a good book with a un-satisfying ending.

I liked this book. It is realistic, and having several siblings, (Not that I REALLY want to get rid of them) I've always kind of wanted to be an only child. You might too. But for Talia it's different. Her parents invite guests over to her house. A lot. She wants to have a sister or brother in the house. Not strangers. It follows the story of a real girl who has real troubles. Just because your parents are on the wealthier side of things and you don't have any one to bug you doesn't mean your life is perfect. This book takes an inside look at what it is to be an orthodox Jewish girl growing up in a house that is practically a hotel. Good for everyone.

When I think about "one is not a lonely number" I can't decide how I feel about it. On the one hand, it was good, true to life, and interesting. Mostly. But if you are someone who likes action in their books, then I wouldn't recommend this book. The plot line is a little... Plain. It wasn't bad, though.

So Good!

Just because you live where everyone has lots of siblings and you have none, it doesn't one is a lonely number. You can be number one in your class for grades, get first place in a race. The book teaches that one isn't so lonely.

I really liked this book. I kept turning the pages to see what would happen next. It was very realistic, and I also liked how the author made it seem so real. One of my favorite parts of the story is how in the beginning, Talia refuses to become friends with Gabby, but in the end it is hard for her to part with Gabby. Book Review by: Danya, age 11, Israel
One Is Not a Lonely Number is a fiction book about a thirteen year old girl named Talia Schumacher. Talia is an only child. You might think that it is fun being an only child. You can get more attention from your parents, have more time to spend with them, have a quiet house, and not have to babysit your baby sibling.

You do not have to share a room EVER, and even have more privacy. But for Talia it's totally not like that. Instead of siblings, her parents invite guests to the house and Talia is getting sick and tired of that. If you like stories that sound real you should read this book.

“Start writing something … anything. Don’t over think the process,  just keep writing!”

Have you read Wonder by R.J. Palacio? Evelyn Krieger loves that book!

Evelyn gets the ideas for her books from lots of different places: conversations in coffee shops, dreams, history, and her own imagination. She doesn't always know how her stories are going to end. For example, when she was writing One is Not a Lonely Number, she knew that Gabrielle had a secret, she just didn't know what that secret was. She kept on writing though, and after a while, it came to her!

Evelyn grew up in Detroit, MI (she is one of six kids!) and before she became a writer, she taught first grade. Now, she lives with her family in Boston, MA.
