The book is amazing but it is also really sad i cried a few times. At first Ruthie is in "the dumb kid class" at school then she gets moved to the "smart kid class" but over the weekend she breaks her leg but really bad, a body cast just to heal her leg.

This book is a shining example of a good portrayal of New York multiculturalism. It is an engaging and interesting story about an immigrant Jewish girl from Cuba (based on the author's life) and describes her life with all its complexities. It is not a shallow story filled with stereotypes but rather a rich and multidimensional story of hardship and triumph.

I loved this book!

This book taught me more about Jewish holidays, rituals, and even food.

This book is so awesome! I enjoy things that are slightly gory or gross, so this book really captivated me. My best friend really wants to read it, and I think she'll really like it. This book really showed me how much of our lives we take for granted. It also showed me that a person doesn't have to be able to fly to be awesome! Ruth has captured my heart, simply by lying in bed for ten months. This book is so great!!:)

EVERYBODY SHOULD READ THIS!

The book was really interesting and unique. I liked that this story was based on the authors true story. I also liked how Ruthie had her Jewish culture and Puerto Rico culture. It reminded me of a book I read in third grade called Jalapeño Bagels. There were a lot of good characters.

I loved this book!

The book Lucky Broken Girl by Ruth Behar a really good book. It is about a poor family who gets a new car. While driving back from visiting family Ruthie, the main character, falls asleep and wakes up badly injured after a car accident. She goes to the doctor and they put her into a body cast for about a year. Being in the cast at first was horrible for her. She could't move at all or go anywhere. After a bit, she learned that she could experience new things and have fun while being stuck in bed. It helped me me learn and understand that you should be happy with what you have because it can always be much worse.
You should ready this book. It was great!

I loved this book!

This book was amazing. I loved it. It was short, which is sad, but the words and pages that are in it, again, are amazing. Me and my mom both read and enjoyed this book. It takes place in NYC in the 1960s and the main character, Ruthie, breaks her leg and has to stay in bed. It goes both up-hill (for the reader) and down-hill (for Ruthie) from there.

Amazing Book

Lucky Broken Girl.
what would you do if your friend was in a car accident, and broke her leg, and then ended up in a body cast? would you still be a good friend, be loyal, be kind, or would you be a bad friend, mean, and be a disloyal friend? well this book is about a girl who ends up being in a body cast, but her friends do not give up, even though Ruth Behar almost gave up. because of her friends she kept going.
this will teach and be a very interesting story it has to do with friends and her family that kept her going!
Thank you PJ our way!

I would read more books by this author.

When Ruthie breaks her leg in a car accident, what will happen to her? This story mainly took place with Ruthie on her bed and as the narrator. It was surprisingly interesting reading all about Ruthie's wishes, fears, and sorrows. Just saying, I actually cried two times reading this book, so I wouldn't recommend this for anyone too young. On a much happier note, to sum up, I would read this again, and you should read it too!

I loved this book!

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

I have not actually finished this book yet- I'm in part II. But despite that, I would recommend to anyone who likes a realistic story, but who can also handle a little drama and scariness. I like this book because I can relate to multiple characters, especially the main character, Ruthie. She is just a Jewish-Cuban-American girl, and she aspires to be like the other girls in her grade, who will become her classmates, as she's being promoted to the regular 5th grade class (which she was not previously in, due to her lack of English). But then she is in a car accident with her entire family and miraculously, suffers only a broken leg, although to make sure that both lags remain even, the doctors put her in a body cast for 6 months at minimum. I can't wait to finish this book, and I may review again after I complete it.

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

So awesome. My friend gave me this, like, a year ago, and I am STILL rereading it. Personally, I am VERY interested in medical things and want to be a doctor, so this book is great for me! Though this book was written awhile ago, when broken legs weren't very treatable, so the book may say things that are quite different now. This book is AMAZING! A MUST READ! Lucky Broken Girl features a girl named Ruthie, who begins the book being an eager, smart, outgoing kid, but ends the book having learned more than she did when she was in school. Changes also showed in Ruthie. She did not care as much about hopscotch, or things like that, and cared more about art (like me) and more quiet things. This book is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!

soooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
