It sucked. I would NEVER lend it to any of my friends or anything because they would die of boredom. Seriously, why waste your time? There are SO many other books to read. Ugh.

I loved this book!

This book made me think more about being Jewish.

Even though the other reviews say this book was horrible, I think it was great! You just have to forget about the fact that it's a biography, and think about it as a story instead. My dad and I read this book together, and we both liked it alot. It's cool to think of Harry Houdini as a Jewish person, just like me.

Hard to Stick With and Kind Of Boring
Submitted 1/2/2018 by Carebear

This book was just OK

Houdini was a very interesting person and you would think that a biography about would be too, but this one was not. It was really boring and I could only get through the first five or so chapters before putting it down. When I read the description I thought it would uncover Houdini's great secrets................but it didn't. The truth is that this book is not very exciting....at all. So if you would like you can choose this book, but pick it at your own risk!!

Bad! Bad! Bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!

I loved this book!

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

Even though technically it is a history book like a biography, it's not boring like a normal history book.
After reading this I went online to see videos of Houdini performing tricks they talked about in the book.

Boring!
Submitted 10/9/2017 by Joshua Burdeen

I thought this book was boring because I didn't really get too interested in the story of Houdini's life, which is too bad because I know he was a very interesting person.

UGH!!!
Submitted 10/6/2017 by Bean

I thought this book was horrible because it wasn't really about Harry Houdini, it was about the author. It said a bunch of stuff about how the author loved Harry Houdini and saw a lot of his shows or whatever. I don't recommend it to anyone who is looking for information about Harry Houdini.

Harry Houdini the world's famous magician is making an elephant disappear, being put in a water box for 1 min and escaping through bottom and more.... This book shows how he does it and the solutions of how. This story really was amazing and i think that you should read this book and find out how Harry Houdini and his incredible escapes. Houdini Is Magical In All Ways

Interesting information, but odd writing style
Submitted 9/5/2017 by veisemann

The details of the life of Eric Weiss (aka Harry Houdini) are fascinating. He's a complicated person who probably suffered from mental illness. The book describes his manic obsessions, his cruel efforts to destroy the reputations of other magicians, willingness to lie to promote himself, and other negative traits, as well has his remarkable showmanship. The writing style, however, is very odd for a book geared toward children. Nearly every other sentence contains a metaphor or some kind of expression. For example, when describing Houdini's grueling performance schedule, the author describes it as "life in a cement mixer." I constantly have to explain to my child what the author means.

Awesome!

This is probably the best Houdini biography I have ever seen.

I liked the book but I think Sid Fleischman should have added more pizazz in this book, but over all, I think this was a fairly fine read.

Great but a little bit slow going.
Submitted 8/9/2017 by djh

It was very interesting to read but when you look at the book you think that it will tell you Houdini's secrets but it doesn't. It was still pretty good though.

Not what I expected, not worth your time.
Submitted 7/8/2017 by LemurOfCuteness

When I chose this book, I expected a well written, maybe boring, but well done biography of Houdini. What I received was not that, The writing makes it feel like it was written by an 8 year old, and the actual book is extremely confusing with its language and choices. I can't believe that this is a finished and edited book.

REALLY BORING

Submitted 4/4/2017 by pachy8

I loved this book!

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

This book is really good because it can, first of all, teach magicians cool new magic tricks to show people. It is also good because people can see pictures of him actually doing tricks. Another thing is you can read what cool tricks he did. There are some very good tricks, including the one on the front cover, where Houdini is inside of a thing where his feet are the only thing sticking out. He can get out of that thing. Nobody would think he would be able to do it. That is my review on the book "Escape: The Story of Harry Houdini."

Parents learned a lot too!

I learned more about Jewish history from this book.

It was cool to learn about how Houdini did magic tricks. But the book has bad words at the end when someone gets mad at Houdini. I thought this was inappropriate for a Jewish book.

Very interesting!

In this book, you learn about someone very special and unique. His name was Harry Houdini, and he was a famous magician. Harry’s real name was Ehrich Weiss, and it was changed to Harry when his family moved to America. This book tells you all about Harry’s family, his life, and how it felt to be a magician. If you don't read this book, you may never learn about Harry Houdini’s life, which I personally think is very interesting!
