Great book!

I liked this book.

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

Reuven is a great pitcher, but he is worried that his brother, Avi, is going to steal the spotlight. So, even though his dad tells him not to, he practices it secretly. I recommend this book for older and younger readers. ⚾️

Fun Read
Submitted 10/14/2018 by allstar00

I liked this book.

Reuven and Avi are brothers, and they play for the same baseball team. Though they both love each other dearly, only one of them can make All Stars, and that competition separates the brothers in a way. Which brother will make All Stars? This book is a "4 Star" book for me because sometimes, the plot tended to be confusing. Still, it was a wonderful story, and you should check it out!!

I loved this book!

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

With Avi (the younger brother) as catcher and Ruevan (the older one) as pitcher it is gonna be a rough season. They have a bunch of good games and when Ruevan figures out a teammate ( Henry) has a curveball it gets Ruevan mad and he tries to learn it only that if you don't perform Curveballs perfect you can permanently ruin our arm. Ruevan needs to make it to All-Stars but only one problem, his rookie brother Avi might make it but not him. Could he permanently ruin his arm? Read more to find out.

I loved this book!

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

The book "All Star Season" by T.S. Yavin is a very intriging and truthful book, it shows the importance of family yet also has a fun aspect thrown in, Baseball! This story shows a different aspect of Jewdaism than most books are written in, the boys in the book are Orthodox, compared to what most kids are in books, reform or conservative. This book shows how two boys have to be flexible and miss baseball practice and games because they are Jewish, as I'm sure many of us have had to do with some activity or other. This book also shows that life doesn't always give you what you wish for, this book tells the story of how one kid deals with this.

I loved this book!

This book made me think more about the importance of family.

In "All Star Season" Reuven and his little brother Avi are on the same baseball team. They both really want it to make it to the All Star Game but only one person can be selected for All Stars from a team. There are many obstacles. Steve is a great batter, Reuven and Avi cannot show off their skills on Shabbat, and even worse, Reuven injures his arm throwing a curve ball that he was not supposed to be throwing. The book is in Reuven's perspective. I can relate a lot to this book. I love baseball and I have a little brother. Reuven always gets embarrassed when his little brother can do something that he can't. In the end, Avi makes it to the All Star Game and really is an All Star. He hit and fielded extremely well. He also was needed to pitch the last inning. He got the first two outs by himself. Afterward, he faced a very good batter. Reuven was worried. As an All Star Game coach, he would have to make sure that Avi got that batter out however embarrassing it was. Avi pitched the ball. Strike 1! Strike 2! This can't be good, Reuven thought. Reuven looked in his journal of every player in the league and saw this guy's weakness. Reuven called a time out and told Avi to throw low. Sure enough, it worked. Avi's team won!
I loved this book until the very end when Avi made it to All Stars and not Reuven. If I were to change the ending, I would change it to this. The coach calls Reuven and Avi's family and says they are both in the All Star Game because one of the other teams had no good players.
Overall, this book was awesome!

I read this book out of my school library and loved it. The story is really good. Some of my non-Jewish friends liked it too. They asked me a lot of questions about being Jewish so I think they understand me better now. Some of the pj books are just for Jewish kids but my friends liked this one and I think it made them get more about being Jewish.

this is a excellent book it really engages the reader in it

This book is full of adventures of two brothers who are good friends but sometimes don’t see eye to eye.

In the book “All Star Season”, Reuven and his younger brother Avi play baseball. Reuven is really good at pitching and Avi is really good at catching, so they make a great team at baseball. In the book, Reuven is very eager to be chosen to play at the All-star game. This is the biggest game of the season and only the best players get to play in this event.
I loved this book! I loved the relationship between the two brothers, and the baseball background made it fun! I especially liked Avi because he was more careful than his brother.
One part I particularly loved about this book was when Reuven persuaded Avi to try play along with him, so he could try a curveball. In their conversation, Reuven was eloquent and was able to allure his brother into helping him, despite Avi’s own reservations. I empathized with Reuven in this episode, since I often try and convince my younger brother and sister to play along with me in my games.
I would recommend this book to people who are interested in baseball, of course, and to those who would like to enjoy a good story about brotherhood. This book is full of adventures of two brothers who are good friends but sometimes don’t see eye to eye, and that is what makes this book interesting and fun to read.

Baseball and Judaism coming together

I liked this book. Maybe that’s because I really like the idea of baseball and the Judaism coming together. I really liked the story and how it explained the way to play ball and how baseball games work.
