Nine-year-old Gertie's life changes dramatically when Hurricane Katrina comes to town. It seems like she's lost everything. Will she ever feel at home again?
When a Hurricane comes to New Orleans, nine-year old Gertie has to leave her house and friends. With her family, she must leave New Orleans and go live with her uncle and aunt in Tennessee. The sad news is that her dad works in a hospital and can't be with the family at all, but on holidays he tries to be there to celebrate with everyone! In the Beginning, Gertie misses her friends from New Orleans very much, but she gets to know the new place better, makes new friends and participates in a talent show with them, where they dance the Dance of the Dreidels.
I enjoyed this book because instead of celebrating the holidays alone, they celebrate the holiday together with family and have lots of fun! I would recommend this book to those who would like to know how one little kid can make it out in the world.
