Standing Together

Review by Rosie

STANDING TOGETHER by Leah Sokol, is the life story of Natan Sharansky. Natan lived in the Soviet Union with his mother, father, and brother. Being Jewish in the Soviet Union was hard, you got less jobs, where put into jail, and where excepted in less places. Natan Sharansky was unable to get permission to move out of the Soviet Union and because of his speaking out, he was put in jail for many, many years. To find out more, read STANDING TOGETHER.

Trouble

Review by Lipster

Natan Sharansky spoke out against the terrible government and their treatment of the Jews and got himself in trouble. He had to go to jail for a realllly long time. He eventually got out. It's a very sad story, but illustrates his strong beliefs and what he was willing to endure to get out and to tell the truth.

Inspiring True Story!!

Review by orcaintheocean

I think that “Standing Together, The Story Of Natan Sharansky” was a really good book. This biography is about a Jewish man whose name is Natan Sharansky and who lived in the former Soviet Union. In the book, the KGB (the Soviet Union’s secret police) arrested Natan for supposedly spying for the US, advocating for human rights, and standing up for the right for Soviet Jews to immigrate to Israel. During his 9 years in prison, Natan calmly asked for his release and snuck letters out of the country with the help of friends that were not in prison. Natan used his most powerful weapon to get out of prison, a hunger strike. “Standing Together, The Story Of Natan Sharansky” is one of the best biographies I ever read. I hope you will read it too!
