A Ceiling Made Of Eggshells is about Loma, a girl who comes from a wealthy Jewish family in 15th century Spain. In this time period, Jews were vastly discriminated against, and a few basic rights were taken away from them. Loma is her grandfather's favourite grandchild, and he seems to have big plans for her. But as time goes on, Loma wonders if her own dreams will ever come true. This story takes us over 10 years of Loma's life, full of life and death, happy moments and sad moments (don't worry, most of them are not so sad), and love. I recommend this to anybody who enjoys historical fiction, and anyone who wants a nice, medium-sized read. Love this book!

LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!

Review by DRoshel

This was an AMAZING book about history and also what happened in Spain in 1483 to Spain's Jews. It’s also funny how the title of the book is a celling made of eggshells but the word eggshells only gets said once in the book. Some parts in the book were sad and some parts of the book were scary. But overall mazals to the author!!!

Loma lives in the Jewish quarter of Alcalá de Henares in 15th-century Spain, where her grandfather is a trusted adviser to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. Loma wants to marry and have children before too long, but her grandfather recognizes her brains and diplomatic skills and enlists her to assist in his negotiations with the royal family, forcing Loma to postpone her dreams. Initially Loma is grateful for the opportunity to help her grandfather, but the older she gets, the more she longs for independence. As the Inquisition looms nearer, and under growing pressure to convert to Christianity, Loma must make the most difficult decision of her life. Can she follow her dreams and help save her family? Gail Carson Levine, the award-winning author of Ella Enchanted, brings the struggles of the Spanish Inquisition to life in this incredible tale of honor, adventure, and sacrifice. This book is perfect for fans of Secrets of the House of Delgado and The Girl With the Secret Name.
