The PJ Our Way Advisory Committee Reviews Yosef Mendelevich
We gave members of the PJ Our Way Advisory Committee a sneak peek at one of this month’s choices – Yosef Mendelevich by Leah Sokol.
Here’s what they had to say about it:
1. What was your favorite part of the book?

2. Yosef’s story is really inspiring! Is there anyone in your life that inspires you?
- “My parents and grandparents”
- “My teachers”
- “My mom because she works really hard and helps others and I want to be like that”
- “Kobe Bryant because he was a hard worker and always strived for the best. I also want to work hard and accomplish goals”
- “My father”
3. In this book, Jews around the world got together to try to help Yosef and other Soviet Jews. Have you ever helped someone when they were in need?
- “Yes, when my friend was hurt I helped take her to the nurse”
- “When I was five and learned about refugees, I made a lemonade stand to raise money for asylum seekers”
- “I served food at a homeless shelter”
- “Yes, I’ve done tzedakah”
- “I love to go to Mitzvah Days at my school and synagogue to make food and other necessities for people who don’t have access to them”
- “Yes, for example whenever someone falls down on the basketball court we go over to help them”
- “I once volunteered at a soup kitchen packing up meals”
