Remember Eitan’s Blog? Author responds!

Inspired by last month’s question “What is YOUR favorite recipe?"

Nechama Liss-Levinson, author, When the Hurricane Came, sent us the following story:

Nechama’s grandkids, Marc and Sadie!
When my grandchildren come over to visit, we always wake up early to make breakfast for the whole family. This picture is when we made French toast for everyone. It was yummy, especially with syrup, blueberries, bananas, and chocolate chips. My granddaughter Sadie’s favorite food is chocolate, and we often bake chocolate brownies for birthdays celebrations and Shabbat. My grandson Marc’s favorite food is Noodle Kugel  (also called luckshen kugel). In my book, When the Hurricane Came, the main character, Gertie, wants to bake her mom’s kugel for Rosh HaShana (the Jewish New Year) as a surprise, but she doesn’t really know the recipe, so she makes one up in her head. What happens is both funny and yucky! Here’s the REAL recipe for Marc’s favorite kugel, from Marc’s great aunt Marilyn:

Aunt Marilyn’s NOODLE PUDDING
  • ½ pound wide egg noodles, cooked and drained
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¾ stick margarine, melted
  • ½ cup raisins
  • 1 apple, cut into small cubes
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  1. Cook egg noodles in boiling water as directed on bag, and rinse in cold water.
  2. Put noodles into a 9 inch square aluminum baking pan
  3. Add sugar, melted margarine, raisins, apples, baking powder and eggs.  MIX.
  4. Bake in 375 degree oven for 45 minutes.  Top should be light brown.  Don’t burn.
IT’S DELICIOUS!

Hey, do you have a cool question to ask Nechama?  Post it here!
