Food and Family

Review by smartgirlchina

"A Place At The Table" is a beautiful book! I would recommend many reasons. Well, for one, I love cooking and baking, and if you do as well, this is a super fun read. There are even recipes in the book! The story is about two girls, Elizabeth and Sara, who come from different backgrounds but discover how much they have in common, teaches us a vital lesson - people and food might be different. Still, it doesn't mean they or their culture (including the food ) are wrong. The story also shows us the secret lives of parents. Sara's mom teaches at her school, and Elizabeth's mom struggles with their family's idea of identity. It sounds heavy, but it's pretty joyful and a good read.

Loved it!!!! Recommended!

Review by YS2012

I loved how many good people there were, the different cultures and backgrounds definitely adds to the story. Sara and Elizabeth have one thing in common, they are both artistic and fun. Sara hates to cook, but will she hate it at the end? Elizabeth has a mom who is struggling with losing a family member, but will Elizabeth get over it and make her mom feel better? Find out, if you read this book! It was an amazing read, and would definitely recommend it. There's even a recipe at the end that you can actually try to make! Its called; "Halwa Cuppa Tea." All in all, this book is great.
