From David, NY, Design Team “Jesse’s Star” was a great book. The author, Ellen Schwartz, told the story about how a klutz named Yossi saved his village from Russian soldiers who tried to steal the villagers’ crops. Yossi caused a distraction by dressing up as Baba Yaga and scaring Russian soldiers away. This allowed Yossi and the villagers to escape on a ship to Canada. The story of Yossi was discovered by his descendant Jesse, who found a Jewish star and put it on his neck. The star started burning on his chest and took Jesse back in time. I would recommend this book to people who like magic and historical fiction.
From Akiva, age 10 This was a beautiful story about how a kid who didn't care much about his ancestors, learned to care a lot more. I liked it because magic took place in it. It was really easy to understand and took me an hour and 1/2 to finish it. It has some freaky scenes like they talk about a dead person, a devil and a witch, but I like that the main character was a clumsy boy who pushed himself and helped his community.
