The book is amazing but it is also really sad i cried a few times. At first Ruthie is in "the dumb kid class" at school then she gets moved to the "smart kid class" but over the weekend she breaks her leg but really bad, a body cast just to heal her leg.
I loved it! It was a fantastic book! I would read it over and over!
This book is a shining example of a good portrayal of New York multiculturalism. It is an engaging and interesting story about an immigrant Jewish girl from Cuba (based on the author's life) and describes her life with all its complexities. It is not a shallow story filled with stereotypes but rather a rich and multidimensional story of hardship and triumph.
I liked how Ruth and her friends shared food from different cultures with each other. I liked how she made good friends very easily. Her healing process took a long time with a little help from her friends and family.
