My Basmati Bat Mitzvah is about a girl of Indian heritage but is a full Jew, which a lot of people don't understand. She is going through a difficult time in her life because she is having doubts in God's existence, and doesn't know that you don't have to believe in God to become a Bat (or Bar) Mitzvah. She is a bit of a tomboy, saying that she's not a fan of dresses, so she wants to wear a traditional sari to her Bat Mitzvah. She also has to deal with her best friend's know-it-all bestie, two annoying boys in her class (who might possibly have a crush on her) and her male Christian best friend who also might be her unbeknownst boyfriend. With all this commotion, My Basmati Bat Mitzvah is a wonderful, captivating (but not confusing) book and I recommend it to anyone who likes learning about Contemporary and modern Jews.
This is an interesting book ! With a lot of surprises ! The characters are funny !
This was an amazing book Tara burns a whole in the Sari and then thinks about and how some of her family is indian.
I really liked this book. It’s about a girl who is Jewish and Indian and wants her bat mitzvah to be Jewish and Indian, too. She needs to convince her mom first, though... I would totally recommend this book. You should read it!!!!!
this book taught me a little bit about Indian food and culture JUST A LITTLE BIT!!!!!!! it was great but I thought that the ending with the kissing was a little bit gross JUST A LITTLE BIT!!! (heh heh)
