This was a very good book, even though around the time Zelly's Grandfather has a heart attack it became a tear jerker for me because she finally understood her Grandfather and his way of her getting a dog of her own. I liked how Zelly learns she is doing the practice dog, not for her Grandfather's sake but to show her parents she is responsible enough to have a dog of her own. Zelly's Grandfather had Zelly do a practice dog not for his sake but simply for hers. I will definitely try to get my hands on the book called "Aces Wild."
When Life Gives You O.J. is an excellent book for two reasons: it actually captures the idea of childhood and it has references with all crazy, funny, bossy, sarcastic Grandpa's!
it was not the best cuz it stalls forever
This book is very... how do I say this? Yiddish. It just has all the aspects of a Yiddish story. It has the people (obviously Jewish), the random interspersing of Yiddish words, and the crazy idea (read it to find out... all I will say is orange juice cartons are involved)! Also... DOGS! DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG DOG! The thought of a "practice dog" is silly enough in itself, but having an orange juice carton as the "practice dog" is even more hilarious.
This book is about a girl who pretends an orange juice carton is her dog. It is fun to read about her making new friends and connecting with family all because of O.J. This is a great book!!!
