Warning: Spoilers, may want to read after you are done. This book had some pretty solid themes. It starts out with an imperfect and self-conscious character who wants a pet dog. Her grandmother died of Cancer recently and she can't get along with her grandfather. Her seemingly crazy grandfather whom she doesn't get along with well, has an idea to prove she is responsible enough to get a dog. He uses a 1 gallon orange juice jug and tells her to pretend to feed it and take it out for walks and even pick up its feces. At first this may seem crazy and embarrassing but it seems to work. She encounters obstacles but also makes friends. She goes through hardships with her old friend, makes another friend, resolves the misunderstandings with her old friend, gets bullied, and stands up for herself. OJ seems to make her gain a stronger character and less self-conscious.
