This was my first book and I really liked it.
This book deals with so many interesting topics. Gilah, A girl with autism struggles socializing, and using breakdancing, (which i do and think is awesome) to find peace. She has deals with the stress of her bat mitzvah approaching, challenges with her sister, and her social life. Then there's guillermo, who is mexican. He loves poetry, and his half of the novel is written in verse. He is struggling with getting a new bike, which was dented after a bus accident, while his family has low funds. They become unlikely friends, and share their struggles and succeses. An altogether great book with so many different stories and perspectives. MUST READ!
The Detour Ahead is a book where a girl goes on a bus and she sees a boy who's on a bike, and the bus almost crashed into him. I didn't like how it was very hard to understand the narrative.
This book reminds me more of a poetry type of book. It was good and unexpected
I thought that since it was in verse, it was going to be boring, but it was the exact opposite! Gilah's bat mitzvah was my favorite part. Highly recommend! At the same time, I think it would've benefited from a bit more action.
