Reading this book inspired me to be like the main character. She was very courageous, creative and fearless. I recommend it.
I think this is a really good book. It's appropriate for all ages, and it describes what it was like to be a girl in 1914 in Russia and then in America. I thought it was really interesting because I was able to see that and I'm 1/2 Russian and can speak Russian so I found out what life was like then there. I recommend this book strongly. Hope you read it!
Batya is a strong and determined girl. She kept her dream alive through a rough time in her life. Eventually her persistence led her to achieve her dream - becoming a wood carver's apprentice!
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!
If you liked the picture book Fival's Flying Horses, you will really like this book. It has different characters, but it is similar to an older kid version. Batya doesn't get discouraged by her being a girl even though the world is trying to discourage her, so I like that.
