This book was strange. The reason that I rated only three stars is because it is a short book (I chose it by default) and the fact that the story starts in the middle, then meanders it's way to the start, and then speeds back to the middle... right through to the end. The surprise ending was a welcome, well, surprise. This was also a good, if basic, mystery. It was quite suspenseful. Good book, though strange plotline.
This book is about a kid who starts volunteering at a senior home. He becomes friends with a man named Mr. Rosenthal, who soon becomes trapped by his sense of honor. Because he was challenged to a duel about something he didn't do, Rosenthal decides to accept, if only to defend his merit. 12 year old David must find a way to find the real culprit who framed his friend, and fast, otherwise it may be too late!
This book was pretty good. It's a story about a boy who's friend Mr. Rosenthal, who lives at a retirement home, is accused of stealing a piece of art from Schwartz, "the bully of the Beit Hakerem Home for the Aged," and is challenged to duel. My only problem with this book is that it is really short, but besides that, it's pretty good!
The book was so good that read in less than 24 hours.
The book Duel is a great book. It’s actually pretty funny, sad, and one of those “it was all just a big misunderstanding” books - all together in one! It is a nice book because it looks like it could really happen anytime in the 1900's. I honestly thought it was in our century! It’s very well written. The thought that a twelve-year-old could become such good friends with a seventy-year-old is crazy to think about! I think David Grossman did an exceptional job with this book! by Ori, National Design Team
